What’s new inside the 2021 Ford F-150?
The newly redesigned F-150 cabin has been spruced up, with new cabin materials and seating options, including handsome quilted leather upholstery. If you’re in the mood for a nap, the optional Max Recline seats will indulge you. They lie almost completely flat, giving this truck cabin a business class vibe. A new stowable shifter folds flat, making way for the newly optional Interior Work Surface, a tray the folds flat over the center console. It’s the perfect place to set up your laptop or legal pad.
There are also two new 12-inch touchscreens - one to replace the traditional gauge cluster and one for the infotainment system. Even if you decide you don’t need these optional screens, the new Sync 4 infotainment system comes standard with a crisp, clear 8-inch touchscreen interface. Sync 4 also introduces wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto smartphone integration. Not only is this a first for full-size trucks, it’s something one typically only finds in luxury cars.
Besides its cool new interfaces, the 2021 F-150 also gives you over-the-air, bumper-to-bumper updates - just like a Tesla. Over-the-air updates can include new maps for the navigation system, enhanced powertrain calibrations, or new feature downloads. Gone are the days when you would need to visit the dealership for the latest tech updates.
This new truck also includes a driver-facing camera that tracks your head position and eye movements. As part of the Active Drive Assist system, this camera helps make sure you’re staying focused on the road. Later next year, drivers can add hands-free driving capabilities to the Active Drive Assist system. You’ll be able to use the hands-free system on pre-mapped divided highways, about 100,000 miles of which are currently geofenced in the U.S. and Canada. While the system isn’t completely autonomous, it’s as close as any truck has been able to come so far.
What’s the deal with the 2021 Ford F-150 hybrid powertrain?
The 2021 F-150 will be the first full-size truck to offer a full hybrid system. The newly optional hybrid powertrain will take the F-150’s most powerful engine, the 3.5-liter turbocharged V6, and pair it with a lithium-ion-battery-powered electric motor.
Although Ford has yet to release detailed specs, the automaker says this hybrid engine will make your F-150 more powerful than any other full-size truck. In addition to best-in-class power, this hybrid engine aspires to take one tank of gasoline and deliver a 700-mile range.
