What has seating for eight passengers, can tow up to 9,000 pounds, offers three rows of ergonomic seating, and has an upscale interior? It’s the 2020 Ford Expedition. Once upon a time, you had to choose between power and comfort. The Expedition proves that those days are long gone. In this preview guide, we show you what you can expect from the 2020 model year and what makes the Expedition one to take home.
What’s New for 2020?
New decade, new features. For starters, the King Ranch trim level now comes in both regular and Max body styles, as opposed to the 2019 Expedition King Ranch, which only came in regular. That means that Max is an option on every single trim level now. By now you’re probably wondering, what is an Expedition Max? A Max gives you an extended-wheelbase model for a larger cargo hold, meaning it’s not just a cavernous passenger area, but also 36 cubic feet of storage behind the back seat and a whopping 121.5 cubes with all the seats down. That’s dozens of cubes more than the regular body type.

We’re also happy to report that Ford’s Co-Pilot360, a robust suite of driver aids, is now standard on all models making everyone safe and sound. And finally, the Black Accent package is now available on XLT models. This appearance package paints wheels, exterior trim and body all black getting you one step closer to becoming Batman.
Strong Acceleration
You’re probably thinking that anything seating eight people has got to be a disappointment to drive. Not so with the 2020 Ford Expedition. Sit in the driver’s seat, press down on the gas, and feel those RPMs. Then put it in drive and get going. With you every mile of the way is either a 3.5-liter EcoBoost (turbocharged) V6 engine delivering 375 horsepower and 470 pound-feet of torque or the Platinum engine that purrs with 400 horsepower and 480 lb-ft. of torque. And witness the Expedition effortlessly shift with its 10-speed automatic transmission, standard throughout the Expedition lineup.
Comfy Interior
You expect a lot of cabin space. You might not expect this luxury look and soft touch. Even adults find getting in and out of the back of the Expedition a breeze thanks to a wide wheelbase and great interior design. There are plenty of premium materials throughout the cabin. Because even if you can haul an industrial trailer full of hay doesn’t mean you can’t enjoy some creature comforts. Maximize the look and feel by upgrading to the King Ranch or Platinum trims. That way, you get the luxury of leather upholstery, aluminum and wood trim pieces, and plenty of other leather-wrapped surfaces. If you have a big family on the go and want to look and feel your best getting there, the 2020 Ford Expedition is among the absolute best.
